Villa Scapardini – Albergo Belvedere
Villa Scapardini – Albergo Belvedere
I chose to write this short article with a hint of history of the Scapardini Villa or Hotel Belvedere. I have had the pleasure to visit it, for the first time, around Christmas with a Christmas tree that soared from the top of the central staircase and increased the atmosphere, warm but austere that I felt.
The FAI (Fondo Ambiente Italiano, in english Italian Environment Fund) organizes annually the visitedel historic center of Miasino, with the opening ofsome fascinating private residences: Palazzo Martelli, Palazzo Sperati, Villa Pestalozza, Villa Nigra and Villa Scapardini precisely, to which is added the church San Rocco subject of recent restorations and true baroque jewel.
The villa stands on top of a hill of Lake Orta, in the municipality of Miasino, was erected around 1884 by Scapardini Family, owner of great hotels in Barcelona and Madrid. Many eighteenth-century buildings, some nineteenth century villas and various architectural heritage of great value, testify to the former glory of the town of Miasino.
In accordance with mansions built in this period, the building has an imposing volume, the typical architectural features of eclecticism.
The facade facing the lake is characterized by a strong central projection with a raised porch and a terrace above the first floor.
The elevated position that could boast this construction, which at the time of his elevation was a prestigious hotel, allowing guests a beautiful view of the lake and the peninsula of Orta San Giulio, they can recognize even the chapels of the Sacred Mount. A lookout tower crowns the roof of the villa.
The entrance of the villa was the spectacular lobby of the hotel which has been carefully preserved and maintained as close as possible to the original. A large central staircase to the upper levels. There is also a lift.
The villa has been converted into apartments in 2001, a target which, fortunately, will ensure overall conservation. The same can be said for the valuable surrounding garden which has been preserved and used, for the most part, a communal space.
“Miasino, in a delightful position, combined with the public bus which leads to the railway station of Orta. Noteworthy the villa Ing. Carlo Nigra, in Baroque style, and the castle of the Marquis Solaroli. The parish church, which is a national monument, deserves to be carefully visited … Miasino is a sought after holiday resort that offers the sights of the nearby mountains and the lake not far away. There are decorous villas and apartments to rent for the summer; good hotels. “
